Brown Rice

Submitted by jiahuanNo Comment

General description

Brown rice has been a food staple in many countries for centuries. Brown rice is extremely nutritious, thanks to its hull. The hull is full of fiber, vitamin Bs, magnesium, manganese, thiamine and zinc, that is why brown rice is referred as the superfood!

Health benefits

i) Antioxidant protection

Unlike white rice, brown rice is a rich source of manganese that helps produce energy from protein and carbohydrates as well as being a critical component of antioxidant enzyme in our body.

ii) Aids in weight loss

Studies have shown that women who consumed whole grains consistently weigh less than those who ate less of these fiber-rich foods. Besides, they were 49% less likely to gain weight compared to those eating foods made from refined grains.

iii) Promote heart health

The oil in whole brown rice helps to lower the cholesterol level. Unlike refined grains, the defatted rice bran did not lower cholesterol but brown rice that contains rice bran oil lowered LDL cholesterol by 7%.

iv) Good source of fiber

A cup of brown rice provides 14.0% of the daily value for fiber. Fiber have been shown to reduce your cholesterol level, reduce risk of artheroslerosis, as well as stabilize your blood glucose level.

How to select and store

Brown rice is more susceptible to become rancid due to its natural oils. It can be stored fresh in an airtight container for 6 months.
