Natural Seaweed
General Description
Our shop offers a wide range of natural seaweed such as wakame, kombu and hijiki. Different seaweed has different nutrient contents and different ways of cooking. According to Seibin and Teruko Akasaki, all minerals required by human body such as calcium, potassium and others are present in sufficient amounts in seaweeds.
Wakame- high in protein, iron and magnesium, it is mostly used in making a variety of dishes such as miso soup, porridge and noodle soup. It has a sweet taste and delicate texture.
Hijiki- contains 14 times more calcium than whole milk, and high in protein. Often used for sauteed with vegetables or crumbled into soups and salads, it has a spagetti-like consistency.
Kombu- rich in minerals, this green sea vegetable can be eaten raw or cook. Suitable for cooking with beans and vegetables, and making soups.
Nori Flakes- infused with mineral riched nutrients, nori flakes have a lighter taste. Can be pre-toasted and ready to eat.
Health benefits
i) Cleanse your body
Sea vegetables such as such as hijiki, kombu and wakame have been shown to cleanse the body of toxic pollutants. These plants contain high alginic acid that binds with heavy metals in the intestines, making them undigestible and being eliminated out of body.
ii) Improve the health of the hair
Minerals are important healthy hair growth. Seaweeds, specifically agame has a high mineral content. Furthermore, it is believed that the thick, black, lustrous hair of the Japanese is partly due to their regular consumption of brown sea vegetables.
How to select and store
In dried form, it can be used as a part of salad or sprinkle over the food as natural tangy seasoning. On the other hand, seaweeds can be a eaten raw, as an excellent and healthy snack. It should be kept in cool place, avoid humidity and sun. In addition, it is advised to finish it up as soon as possible once it is opened.
