Quinoa

Submitted by jiahuanNo Comment

General description
Quinoa is an amino acid-rich seed that has a fluffy, creamy, slightly crunchy texture and a somewhat nutty flavor when cooked. Quinoa was once called “the gold of the Incas,”, as it supplies complete protein, meaning that it includes all nine essential amino acids. This can be a good choice for vegans, as well as individuals with diabetes, migraine and artherosclerosis.

Health benefits
i) Relief for migraine
Quinoa is a good source of magnesium, a mineral that helps to relax blood vessels and prevent the vessel constriction. Studies have shown that increased intake of magnesium has been shown to reduce the frequency of headache episodes.

ii) Promote heart health
Consumption of whole grain products and dietary fiber has been shown to reduce the risk of high blood pressure and heart attack. This is because dietary fiber helps to bind along and eliminate excessive cholesterol in intestine.

iii) Prevention of gallstone
Studies shown that those eating the most foods rich in insoluble fiber gained more protection against gallstone, a 17% lower risk compared to women eating the least. This is due to insoluble fiber speeds up intestinal transit time as well as reduces the secretion of bile acids and increase the insulin sensitivity.

How to select and store
Store in airtight container once opened. If stored in refrigerator, it can be kept for a longer time.
